Vocational Services - Transition for Young Adults
 |
| Jenna and Marki enjoying a community outing; hear them share their experiences as participants in Transition Services for Young Adults. |
The purpose of TPYA is designed to provide recent high school graduates with disabilities the skills necessary to increase independence and maintain longterm employment. Staff works with participants to increase their financial literacy, develop a responsible work ethic and build independent living skills.
Lesson plans center on the development of six main competencies including, employment readiness, community integration, social and independent living, personal advocacy, educational enrichment, and family and caregiver relations. Almost all Transition for Young Adults activities are conducted in the community as it is our belief that participants retain more of what is learned when it is applied in a real life setting. Being community based also allows participants to develop a strong level of comfort interacting and participating in all aspects of the community.
